It's important to understand that autism is a spectrum, meaning children may experience a wide range of challenges and strengths unique to them.
Our goal at Lotus Speech Therapy is to empower individuals with autism to communicate effectively, express themselves, and engage meaningfully with the world around them. We believe in celebrating the strengths and abilities of each individual while providing the support and tools they need to navigate communication challenges. We help them develop and enhance their communication skills, whether it's verbal or nonverbal communication.
AAC helps people who have trouble speaking verbally, like those with autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities. It's a critical way for them to express themselves, share their thoughts, needs, and emotions.
We use different AAC methods like picture boards, communication devices, and "baby signs" to help our kids communicate. For many, AAC is not just about talking; it's about being independent, forming relationships, and being part of society. Additionally, it's a way for them to communicate their basic wants and needs to anybody.
Research shows that AAC actually improves communication overall, contrary to the misconception that it hinders language development. We are very passionate about AAC at Lotus and strive to help individuals find their voice and connect with the world around them using AAC.
